By performing several activities, Native Americans can improve their quality of life and overcome PTSD-related challenges by using the VA Veterans Wellness Path app, which was created by the Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research.
-
From the start of the project to its ultimate conclusion and the transfer of the work files to the developers, it took six months.
-
It was my responsibility to create illustrations for five different Home Screens, each of which featured a different native American setting with particular plants and animals.

This project involved the collaboration of around 17 individuals worldwide, including psychologists, researchers, UI/UX designers, illustrators, and others. We used Figma to achieve a unified working environment by contributing with our individual professional input.
Sketching
Rough drawing is the first step in every design. To get feedback directly from the source, we spent a lot of time evaluating various settings in the company of veterans. We completed a sufficient degree of sketching with their input, and we are then ready to go on to the next stage: converting the outlines into vector files.
Digitalisation & Iteration
Before deciding on our preferred design, we tried out a tonne of other layouts. A lot of data had to be gathered, thus the process moved slowly but steadily. The UI itself also underwent a lot of iteration which had to be applied in the illustration right away.
Final deliverables
As opposed to the geometric alternatives we had previously investigated, we concluded that a trail with flowing curves and a natural appearance would be the best option. The previous scenes gave some people the impression that they were playing a game with multiple stages and we were searching for a solution. As a result, the composition became less rigid and the elements were not constrained by stronger guidelines. The upward-pointing path signifies that the journey never stops.
